Your subject line is not as important as this

Last month I gave a training on how subject lines are the most important thing in your emails.

If you go online, that’s what everyone says:

Your subject line is the key to getting opened.

But they’re wrong (at least partially).

Your subject line isn’t the most important thing.

The most important thing is who it’s from.

Your name.

Because if your reader knows you, likes you, and trusts you to send something valuable...

Whether it’s helpful, funny, insightful, or just worth reading...

They’ll open it even if the subject line isn’t the best ever.

If your friend sends you an email, you open it.

You don’t need a clever hook.

You just see their name, and you’re in.

That’s the relationship you want to build with your list.

Subject lines matter.

But trust matters more.
