80 cents of your dollar

The most important thing

“When you have written your headline, you have spent eighty cents out of your dollar.”

This is a famous quote attributed to David Ogilvy, known as the “Father of Advertising.”

He was the original Mad Man.

And what he meant is that your headline is the most important part of your marketing. (For emails, the headline is your subject line.)

If you’ve got a dollar to spend on your marketing, 80 cents should be spent on your headline, the rest on everything else.

If you’ve got 100 minutes to spend, 80 should be on your headline, 20 on everything else.

Most of us do it the reverse, or less.

Throwing in the headline as an afterthought.

But that’s dumb.

Because we can have the best, most amazing content/product/offer/post, but if no one stops scrolling/clicks/opens, it doesn’t matter.

With AI, we can get some massive help in brainstorming subject lines.

That’s why I made this simple subject line generator. It’s available for free (for now).

It was an experiment in vibe coding, and when I have a chance I’ll improve the prompt so it gives even better outputs.

But it’s pretty cool as is because all you have to do is enter your email idea and target audience, and it will give you 15 ideas using 5 different subject line frameworks.

Then reply and let me know what you think and how I coud make it better or more useful for you.

And have a great weekend!

Nathan

P.S. I’m heading out on a camping trip tomorrow. Planning to keep my streak of emailing every weekday going, but internet will be spotty so if you don’t hear from me for a couple days, I’ll be back mid-week or so.

If you’re stuck on your newsletter, lead magnet, or AI setup, book a coaching session at this link and I’ll help you sort it out step by step so you can move forward with confidence and a plan.
