"Everyone is not your customer"

Seth Goden

Corey Koehler knows exactly who he's talking to.

Gen X creators. People in their 50s. Cubicle workers building something new.

He doesn't hedge.

He doesn't try to appeal to millennials or boomers too.

Every piece of content speaks directly to his people.

From his guitar solo references to his "too young to retire, too old for the rat race" tagline.

And it works.

Result?

  • A focused newsletter business built on affiliate income and course sales.

  • Content that feels like it's written specifically for you (if you're his audience).

  • Tools and strategies that solve real problems for real people.

How he does it

Corey uses 4 AI tools to create content faster while staying true to his voice:

βœ… ChatGPT Projects β†’ Saves his style and tone so every prompt stays consistent to his brand

βœ… NotebookLM β†’ Drops YouTube links or articles in, gets clean outlines and key points in minutes instead of watching full videos

βœ… Wispr Flow β†’ Voice-to-text for emails, LinkedIn comments, and brain-dumping content ideas without overthinking

βœ… Perplexity β†’ Research tool that cuts through Google's garbage results

Then he publishes everything through Beehiiv. One platform that handles his blog, newsletter, and monetization.

My Take

I use these exact same tools.

But what really stood out was his audience focus.

He's not trying to help "entrepreneurs" or "content creators."

He's helping Gen X creators who are too young to retire but too old for the rat race.

That specificity makes everything easier:

  • Creating content that resonates

  • Speaking to specific problems

  • Making sales feel natural

When you know exactly who you're talking to, they feel like you're talking directly to them.

I'm wrestling with this right now: How far do I niche down? How specific do I get?

It's scary to exclude people.

But Corey shows what happens when you go all in on one audience.

They actually listen.
