Your AI content fails because you're skipping this
AI knows everything except what matters most
There's a reason most AI-generated content becomes "AI slop":
People expect something good out without putting something good in.
They give some generic prompt like "Write me a welcome email for my podcast community".
And what they get back is generic, robotic-sounding content.
They blame the AI for being "not that good yet".
But the problem isn't the AI.
It's the approach.
Imagine hiring a copywriter or marketing assistant and asking them to write an email for you, then getting frustrated when they can't read your mind.
They'd be sitting there, anxious and confused, desperately trying to piece together what you want:
Who's the audience? Are they beginners who need hand-holding or experts who'll roll their eyes at basic advice?
What's your offer? Something they've been desperately searching for or something they don't yet know they need?
What's the tone/style/length? Professional that builds trust or casual that creates connection?
What do you want the reader to feel, believe, and ultimately do?
Without answers, they'd either freeze completely or deliver something so generic it might as well be written for anyone (which means it's written for no one).
No different with AI.
ChatGPT is trained on basically everything ever written.
It knows about email marketing. It knows copywriting. It knows about podcasts. It knows about communities.
What it doesn't know is the passion you feel for YOUR audience, the frustrations keeping YOUR ideal clients up at 3AM, the unique voice that makes YOUR people feel "this person gets me," or the particular transformation YOU'RE promising.
Unless you give it that emotional context, it has no choice but to generate soulless, generic content based on averages of everything it's seen.
And average content gets average results (meaning: none).
The solution is straightforward but rarely practiced:
Context first, Output second.
When you ask for something from ChatGPT, you need to give it context:
Who exactly your ideal client is (their fears, dreams, and daily struggles)
What specific problems leave them feeling frustrated and hopeless right now?
Why you're uniquely positioned to help them (your story, your scars, your breakthroughs)
What your authentic voice and communication style is like (examples that capture your personality)
What specific action you want readers to take (and how they'll feel after taking it)
Your idea for the email
Once you give it that context, AI becomes incredibly powerful.
Not because it's thinking for you, but because it's channeling your thinking, your voice, and your passion more efficiently.
This is what I'm obsessed with when I teach people how to use AI and in the bots I build.
