I got complacent.
For three years, I had two long-term clients. Steady work.
I was waiting for them to break out. Scale up. Give me more projects.
That breakout hasn't happened.
This year, I realized: I have to build on my own.
That's why I'm doing this newsletter.
Why I started Unscaled Solopreneur.
But this week? I got my butt kicked in a new mastermind.
The truth: when you can do freelance work and need clients and don't have a big audience, the best place to be is Upwork.
But my profile was outdated.
Three years since I'd touched it.
I didn't want to spend hours reading about what makes a good profile or fretting about wording.
I wanted a 90% good-enough draft based on best practices and my actual experience.
So, I used AI.
Result?
A 10-page "Ultimate Guide to Creating a Top-Tier Upwork Profile"
A bot that writes your entire profile using that guide, your CV, and experience
A system that turns profile writing from hours into minutes
How I built it
Step 1: The Research
✅ Created a ChatGPT-5 agent with this job:
"Investigate what makes a winning Upwork profile. Search YouTube, Reddit, blogs, etc. Identify common elements, frameworks, templates from real people who've earned $100K+ on Upwork. Output: Ultimate guide to creating a top-tier Upwork profile in Markdown."
Step 2: The Bot
I then created Profile Writing Bot to do the hard work for me:
✅ Built on Poe (bigger context window than ChatGPT)
✅ Used Claude as the writing model
✅ Fed it the entire guide as knowledge base
✅ Used a bot-building bot from my mastermind to make it more powerful
You upload your CV, LinkedIn profile, any other docs you have about yourself. It asks strategic questions about your skills, experience and desired jobs.
Then writes your customized profile based on best practices.
My Take
The big lesson I’m trying to apply: when you build something for yourself, how can you build it for leverage?
Now I've got:
A profile that should convert
A guide I can give away as a lead magnet
A bot that solves this for other freelancers
Potential for custom bot builds as a service
Sometimes fixing your own problem creates your next opportunity.
