Today I was working on a 6-week action plan for a client.
I fed ChatGPT transcripts of our calls, a questionnaire, she’d filled out, a previous strategy I’d for another clients, etc.
Then did the usual back and forth to get a solid output I shared with her.
When it was done, I asked ChatGPT a question I’d never asked before:
“What did I do well in this process, and what could I do better next time?”
Since I want to turn this into a more replicable process, I figured that would help me.
Result?
ChatGPT basically gave me a post-mortem on my own creative process.
It told me what worked (context, iteration, specificity) and what slowed things down (mixing strategy with execution, unclear sequencing).
In a few lines, it showed me how to get better results from itself.
Which, when you think about it, is wild.
AI acting as a consultant telling me how to get better results from AI.
How I Did It
Heres the prompt I used (in the same conversation where I’d developed the action plan:
I want you to get meta for a second an look at this conversation as an expert in how to use AI to get a particular result. Summarize for me the good and the bad about how I interacted with you to get the ultimate output I wanted, and what could I have done differently/better to get a better output sooner/more easily.
ChatGPT gave it to me straight:
What worked:
Gave deep context and emotional clarity, not just commands.
Iterated out loud and corrected early.
Tied creative work to real data (the transcripts).
What slowed it down:
Mixing big-picture strategy with small-task edits in the same prompt.
Jumping into creation before locking the framework.
Re-explaining what didn’t work instead of re-anchoring to the goal emotion.
What to do next time:
Start every project with a clear outcome statement.
Separate thinking from building.
Anchor prompts in examples before expanding.
Treat revisions as iterations, not resets.
AI feedback loops aren’t just for outputs. They’re for process too.
My Take
I use AI to make things faster.
But sometimes it’s worth slowing down and asking it to hold up a mirror.
ChatGPT isn’t just a creative partner and it’s way more than a task machine.
It can help you create systems and processes to get maximum utility out of.
