586 Days

Show up for the long haul

That’s how long it took one guy to buy.

586 days on the list before he joined my client’s high-ticket mentorship program.

I was on a call with that client today, and we were looking at recent signups.

This guy paid $5,000 this week.

We checked his history.

He originally joined the list in October 2023. So that’s 586 days without buying anything.

Then two months ago, he bought a $297 course.

And this month? He joined the program.

That’s why email is so important.

Most people don’t buy the first day.

Or the second.

Or the third.

It might take months. Or years.

But if you’re not building your list, and staying in touch consistently, they’ll just buy from someone else when they are ready.

This isn’t even the longest example we’ve seen.

I keep a spreadsheet for this client, tracking how long it takes people to go from first touch to buying.

The longest?

4,137 days.

That’s more than 11 years on the list.

And there are plenty more like that.

People who read dozens or hundreds of emails before they ever buy.

You don’t always know who’s paying attention.

But they’re there.

That’s why I’m working to build the habit of writing and creating content daily.

I’ve been building out my own products too, but it’s taking longer than I want.

Partly because of client work, partly because of life with little kids, and partly because of some mental blocks that are keeping me from hitting “done.”

So if you’re struggling with it too, here’s what I’d suggest:

Break it up.

  • First, build the habit. Just get used to sending. Daily, weekly, whatever works.

  • Then, focus on the offer. Something people can buy.

  • Then, grow the list that feeds it.

That’s what I’m trying to do.

That’s how I’m thinking about it right now.

You don’t know when someone will be ready to buy.

But if you’re not there—if you’re not showing up—they’ll find someone else who is.
